The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Louis F. Chase (ASN: 11016126), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Caumont, Normandy, France, on 14 June 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army. The badge is in very good condition and has a nice bronze tone to it, I have photographed it next to a clearly silver example for comparison. Very hard to find badge!

The canister retains spare lenses and a very nice A1B gasmask with a 1937 dated filter. The straps are original to the canister. The short strap looks to be marked. The long rayon strap has a leather end point and has one period repair. On top of the pre war green paint there is a neatly period spray painted blue grey camouflage finish typical for Luftwaffe troops. The blue paint shows the green underneath at some spots and is also covered with large hand applied field grey spots as camouflage. The gasmask is a excellent example retaining up to 90% of its original paint and would be very hard to upgrade!
