The canister is named and has a Feldpost number which could be one of the following numbers; L2317*, with the last digit hard to read I checked the feldpostnumbers starting with 2317 and came up with two Luftwaffe Feldpostnumebrs; 23179, Flak Sturm Abteilung 266 and 23173 for Fallschirm-Kraftfahr-Kompanie 11. With the latter serving only in Italy it is clear that the unit for this gasmask is 23179, Flak Sturm Abteilung 266, which also served in the Netherlands. The gasmask was found in Veghel which is right in Hells Highway which was the scene for heavy fighting during operation Market Garden.
