Rare British MKII helmet from Belgian Piron Brigade named Castermans
Rare British MKII helmet from Belgian Piron Brigade named Castermans. The helmet was found in Bourg-Achard which is Southwest of Rouen in Normandy. The Belgian Piron Brigade landed on the 7th of August in Arromanches and Courseulles. The brigade was around Bourg-Achard around the 25st of August 1944 after which they crossed the Seine towards Rouen. The helmet is in good condition with its original liner and chinstrap. The helmet retains the remnants of the Brigade Piron flash which seems to be period removed. The helmet is named Castermans and according to my quick research with the help of a good friend here; it seems the clear match is the name Guillaume Castermans. Guillaume was a soldier with the 2nd Motorized company, 4th Assault platoon. He most probably served with a armoured car battalion and lost his helmet in Normandy. He died suddenly after the war on the 8th of June 1945 and is buried in Neerpelt. This is a great helmet which was sourced in Normandy and has a great base for further research. I don’t recall ever having such a researchable British helmet for sale. Hard to find and interesting piece!
