Dutch NSB Press Photograph: Vandalized Newspaper Obituaries as an Act of Resistance


This intriguing Dutch NSB press photograph captures a newspaper obituary that has been deliberately defaced as an act of resistance. At the top of the obituary is vandalized with the addition of recycled newspaper letters and words reading; ‘Door deze Kennisgeving bezorgt gij Nederland kosteloos prettige oogenblikken‘ meaning ‘Through this Notice, you provide the Netherlands with enjoyable moments free of charge’. On the bottom it reads; Maar door gaan, zei de dokter‘ meaning ‘but carry on, said the doctor’. The photograph measures 24x18cm and bears the marking “Fotodienst der NSB, Maliebaan 29, Utrecht.”
