Pre war Czech shovel with cover
A nice pre war Czech straight E-tool. The complete stock of Czech uniforms and equipment was taken in by the German army at the beginning of the occupation in 1938. A large portion of these shovels was straightly re-issued into the Waffen-SS which up till 1940 could not rely on the issue of equipment through the OKW. Hence you can see these a lot of pictures of the Waffen-SS in the early campaign. These shovels where used and issued within all branches of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS from 1940 onwards. I’ve included a few pictures of these shovels in German use.

Rare wartime barrel changing mitt for the MG34 and MG42. When firing the MG34 and MG42 continuously the German soldiers where presented with a harsh and difficult task: changing the barrel. The MG34 and MG42 where both made with a quick-change barrel and to help in the changing of the barrel these gloves where invented and issued. These gloves where issued with the accessories of the MG34 and MG42. It is simply used by placing the hand under the strap and using the pad to cover your hand when you grab the hot, sometimes even glowing barrel. The barrel is then placed in the Laufschützer to cool down and a cool new barrel is inserted. According to regulations, the barrel had to be changed after 150 rounds fired continuously. Y-straps manufactured from British webbing in Wirtschaftsamt Litzmannstadt
These Y-straps are made in the Ghetto of Lodz, Poland which the Germans renamed into “Litzmannstadt”. They are made using parts of captured British equipment items. These British equipment items where left in 1940 when the British Expeditionary Force evacuated to the United Kingdom. The Germans sent these for recycling and a lot of work was put in disassembling every British equipment piece and recycling the individual parts into German army equipment. Y-straps, breadbags, A-frames and rucksacks are a few of the items made in Litzmannstadt. A very rare pair of Y-straps – for sure the best pair I’ve had!

Photo album of Ernst Schilz with pictures in France ; Falaise, Caen and more
A very nice album with over 170 clear pictures. The album begins with a period in the Deutsche Arbeitsdienst. Later he was drafter in the Luftwaffe where he must have served a medical function. Schulz poses near the castle in Falaise and the church in Caen. There are countless other pictures of towns and villages that look like Normandy to me. There is a set of pictures of the burial of Sanitäter Jakob Fink, killed in action 17.6.1944 at Le Desert which is next to St. Lo in Normandy. The album would be a great base for further research!
